Prayer for the Dying
I wish you calm,
to close your eyes with serenity
and touch light that most
would dare not reach.
I wish you joy—
true, pure, white hot
like a sunburst in black space.
I pray that glory may be yours;
A thundering celebration of the years
you lived.
I pray you find a beginning,
a renewed chance to breathe as you wish to.
I wish you no torment from old demons
and liberty from that thorn on your side.
May your passing cleanse you;
May your tears wash away hurt and pain.
I wish you no turbulence, no anguish, no dread.
I wish you restful unending peace in this life
and the next.
